5-Day Devotional: Pointing People to Jesus
Day 1: Knowing Your True Identity
Reading: Romans 6:3-11
Devotional: John the Baptist knew exactly who he was and, more importantly, who he was not. He allowed God’s Word to define his identity rather than the opinions of others or the expectations of culture. Today, reflect on how you define yourself. Are you allowing God’s truth to shape your identity, or are you seeking validation from the world around you? You are a child of God, fearfully and wonderfully made, chosen and treasured. When your identity is rooted in Christ, you stop trying to impress people and start living to please God. This freedom transforms how you interact with others and how you represent Jesus in your daily life. Let God’s Word speak truth over your life today.
Day 2: The Significance of Public Commitment
Reading: Matthew 3:13-17
Devotional: Baptism is more than a ritual; it is a public declaration of an inward transformation. Just as Jesus submitted to baptism, we are called to follow His example. This act symbolizes dying to our old self and rising to new life in Christ. It requires courage to stand before others and proclaim your faith, but this is precisely what Jesus calls us to do. Consider areas in your life where fear holds you back from fully following Christ. Remember that when we tackle the areas where we are most fearful, we often experience the most freedom. If you have surrendered your life to Jesus but have not been baptized, take that step of obedience. Let your life be an outward expression of the inward change Christ has made.
Day 3: Jesus as Lord, Not Just Savior
Reading: Luke 9:23-26
Devotional: There is a critical difference between accepting Jesus as Savior and submitting to Him as Lord. When Jesus is Lord, He has authority over every area of your life—your finances, relationships, time, and decisions. This means His desires become your desires, and His will takes precedence over your own plans. John the Baptist understood this completely. He declared himself unworthy even to untie Jesus’ sandals, recognizing the vast difference between Creator and created. Today, examine your life honestly. Are there areas you have withheld from Jesus’ lordship? Perhaps a relationship, a habit, or a dream? True freedom comes when we surrender everything to Him. Count the cost, then give Him complete control.
Day 4: The Power of Your Witness
Reading: John 1:29-34
Devotional: John the Baptist had one primary mission: to point people to Jesus. His witness was powerful because it was authentic and focused. He shared what he had seen and experienced. Your testimony is one of the most powerful tools you have for sharing the gospel. People may debate theology, but they cannot argue with your personal story of transformation. What has Jesus done in your life? How has He shown His faithfulness during difficult seasons? Perhaps it is through answered prayer, healing, provision, or simply His presence in your darkest moments. Do not underestimate the impact of sharing your story. Someone needs to hear how Jesus has changed you. Let your life and your words point others to the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.
Day 5: Knowing the Lamb of God
Reading: Isaiah 53:4-7
Devotional: The ultimate question is not whether you know about Jesus, but whether you truly know Him. John declared Jesus as “the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.” This was not merely a title but a profound truth about Jesus’ purpose and sacrifice. Just as the Passover lamb’s blood saved the firstborn in Egypt, Jesus’ blood saves us from eternal death. He was the perfect, spotless sacrifice offered once for all. Today, reflect on your relationship with Jesus. Have you accepted His sacrifice for your sins? Are you walking in the freedom He purchased for you? If you have never surrendered your life to Christ, today can be your day of salvation. Admit your need, repent from sin, and receive the gift of eternal life through Jesus Christ alone.
