How to Be a Light in Your Neighborhood This Halloween

Tonight we’re not gathering at the church building — we’re BEING the church in our neighborhoods. Here are a few simple ways to be present, be kind, and make the most of Halloween night:

1. Be Out Front & Be Approachable

Don’t hide inside — be visible! Set up on your driveway, porch, lawn, or by a fire pit. Create a warm and welcoming vibe.

    • Have good candy. (Yes… the real stuff.)

    • Add lawn chairs, music, and maybe some hot cocoa.

    • Smile, wave, say hi. It goes a long way.

2. Talk Like a Normal Person

Seriously — just be friendly and genuine. The goal is connection, not a sales pitch.

    • Ask names, compliment costumes, say hello to parents.

    • Avoid: “So… where would you go if you died tonight?

Be real. Be human. Be kind.

3. Let Invitations Be Natural

Let the spirit lead you, some folks might not be ready for an invite card… that’s ok! Don’t force those cards into buckets or into people’s hands, that might do more harm than good.

    • “We actually go to Shelter Cove — if you ever want to check it out, we’d love to have you.”

    • Keep it light. A simple invite card is perfect.

    • No pressure. No weird energy. Just an open door.

4. Pray for the Night Beforehand

Ask God to:

    • Help you notice someone who might need encouragement.

    • Give you joy, peace, and warmth as you greet people.

    • Use small conversations in ways you may never see.

God moves through everyday interactions.

5. Have Fun

Seriously. Enjoy your neighborhood!
Laugh. Compliment costumes. Roast marshmallows. Let your kids run around.
Joy is one of the most powerful witnesses you have.

The Big Picture

We’re not running an event — we’re being present.
We’re showing our neighbors that followers of Jesus are:

  • Joyful

  • Kind
  • And genuinely glad to meet them

That alone will speak louder than anything you say. We’re praying for you tonight!
