Our Story

Twenty-Five Years of Shelter

Who We Are

Shelter Cove is a church in Modesto, California, reaching the Central Valley with the hope of Jesus. This is a place where people can meet and experience Jesus for the first time and grow as they take their first steps with him, becoming authentic followers.

Our Story

It started in 2001 with a Bible study in a barn. Nobody expected that the first gathering would draw 700 people, and it was clear God was doing something bigger than anyone had planned.

For the next few years, the young church met in buildings all over Modesto, wherever there was room. In 2005, land was purchased, and two years later, in 2007, Shelter Cove moved into the building we still call home today.

Twenty-five years later, Shelter Cove exists to reach the Central Valley with the hope and light of Jesus. one life, one family, one ONE at a time.

Mission

Reaching and Raising Authentic Followers of Jesus

Vision

That everyONE will know Him

We strongly believe that those who know Jesus shouldn’t keep it to themselves. We want every ONE in the Central Valley to know Him, and we want to raise up believers who are ready to help them get there.

What We Value

God’s Word

We teach the Bible and believe truth matters.

Prayer

We ask God to do the impossible.

Community

We grow best when we pursue Jesus together and encourage each other.

Serving

We are passionate about using the time and gifts God has given us to build His Kingdom.

Generosity

We give to see as many people come to Jesus as possible.

What We Believe

Everyone’s welcome at Shelter Cove, whether you’re still working things out or you’ve believed for years. But we want you to know what shapes our preaching, our teaching, and the direction of our church — the beliefs we build everything on.

Common Questions

What should I expect on a Sunday?

Come as you are, there’s no dress code here. You’ll be welcomed by a real person before you even reach the door, the worship is authentic, and the message is practical and rooted in Scripture. Plan on staying about an hour.

What about my kids?

Kids are a priority here, not an afterthought. We have age-appropriate, secure environments for kids from nursery through fifth grade during services, plus meeting times for students.

How do I get connected?

The best next step is First Step, a short gathering where you can learn more about who we are and how to plug in, including Cove Groups, our small groups where life happens together.

Come See For Yourself

The best way to get to know us is in person. We’d love to save you a seat this Sunday.
