Have you ever avoided someone at the grocery store or in public? What made you want to avoid them? (Keep it light and fun!)

Introduction

This week, we explored Jesus’ radical encounter with the Samaritan woman at the well—a conversation that defied every social, cultural, and religious norm of the day. Through this passage, we discover four powerful truths about how Jesus meets us in our brokenness and transforms our lives.

• Discussion Questions:

Why was Jesus’ conversation with the Samaritan woman so culturally shocking? What barriers did He cross?

Have you ever felt like you were “too far gone” for Jesus to pursue you? What lies have you believed about your worthiness?

Read Romans 5:8, 5:20, and Ephesians 2:13. How do these verses challenge the idea that anyone is beyond God’s reach?

Reflection:

Jesus didn’t wait for this woman to clean up her life. He met her in the middle of her mess. Where in your life do you need to believe that Jesus is pursuing you right now, exactly as you are?

2. Jesus Satisfies Our Deepest Thirst

Discussion Questions:

What is “living water“? How is it different from physical water or temporary satisfaction?

What are the “wells” you keep returning to that leave you thirsty? (Work, relationships, social media, substances, achievements, etc.)

Why do we keep going back to things that don’t satisfy us? What makes these “salt water wells” so appealing?

Personal Reflection:

James shared that work was his “salt water well“—keeping himself busy to avoid uncomfortable transformation. What is yours? Be honest with your group.

Read: Ecclesiastes 3:11 – “He has put eternity into man’s heart.”

How does this verse explain our constant searching for satisfaction?

3. Jesus Calls Us Into Relationship, Not Religion

Discussion Questions:

What’s the difference between worshiping “in spirit and truth” versus religious ritual?

Before Jesus, worship was tied to a specific place (temple/mountain). How does Jesus change that?

How does viewing worship as “everything we do” rather than “an hour on Sunday” change your perspective on daily life?

Practical Application:

What would it look like for you to worship God in your workplace this week?

How can you worship God “in truth“—according to who He actually is, not who you want Him to be?

Challenge:

Identify one area of your life where you’ve been treating faith like a religious duty rather than a relationship. How can you shift that this week?

4. Jesus Uses Us to Reach Others

Discussion Questions:

The woman left her water jar and immediately told others about Jesus. What does this tell us about true transformation?

Why do you think many believed “because of the woman’s testimony” (v. 39)?

Do you believe your story is “exciting enough” to share? Why or why not?

Key Truth:

Your testimony is simply your story of what Jesus has done. No one can argue with a changed life.

Three Reasons Your Story Is Powerful:

• It connects where arguments can’t
• It shows what transformation looks like
• It invites people to encounter Jesus
• Personal Story Sharing
• Group Activity:
• Take 10-15 minutes for 2-3 people to share their testimony (3-5 minutes each). Use these prompts:

What was life like before Jesus (or before you truly surrendered)?

How did you encounter Jesus?

What has changed since then?

Encourage even those with “grew up in church” stories to share—transformation is transformation!

Practical Application

• This Week:
• 1. Identify Your Well

Write down the “salt water well” you keep returning to for satisfaction. Pray and ask God to help you find your satisfaction in Him alone.

2. Share Your Story

Write out your testimony (1-2 pages). Use the prompts above.

Share your story with one person this week—either someone in your life who doesn’t know Jesus or submit it via the church QR code.

3. Invite Your “One”

Easter is two weeks away! Who is the “one” person you’re praying for and inviting?

Pray for them daily

• Grab invite cards from the church lobby
• Personally invite them to Easter services
• 4. Worship Beyond Sunday

Choose one daily activity (work, parenting, exercise, etc.) and intentionally do it as an act of worship to God this week.

Closing Reflection

Read John 4:25-26 together:

“The woman said, ’I know that Messiah is coming (he who is called Christ). When he comes, he will tell us all things.’ Jesus said to her, ’I who speak to you am he.’”

Jesus revealed Himself as Messiah for the first time not to religious leaders or influential people, but to an isolated, ashamed, socially outcast woman.

What does this tell you about Jesus’ heart for the broken?

Memory Verse: John 4:13-14 – “Everyone who drinks of this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”
