FOR PARENTS
Kids & Baptism
If your son or daughter has told you they want to be baptized, that’s worth celebrating. Here’s how to think through that step together.
Baptism is a public declaration of faith in Jesus: a step for anyone, at any age, who has decided to follow Him (Matthew 28:18-20). If your child has come to you wanting to be baptized, it’s worth slowing down to talk with them about what that means: that salvation comes through faith in Jesus, not through the act of baptism itself (Ephesians 2:8-9), and that baptism is what comes after: a way of showing others what’s already happened in their heart.
You know your child best. Talk with them about why they want to be baptized and what they understand about who Jesus is and what He’s done, and make sure this is truly their own decision. When you’re ready, we’d love to walk through it with you.
Not sure how to start that conversation? Our guide on How to Talk to Your Kids About Jesus walks through it step by step, from who Jesus is to what baptism means, plus questions to help you gauge if they’re ready.
